Hello, 2015

There are many others who have written their 2014 in a nutshell on New Year’s day (or eve). I, on the other hand, am only starting at the end of January 2015. Hahah. Whoops.

2014 was a roller coaster for me. A total cliché. Believe me, I know. I toggled between the highs and lows very frequently. I had mixed feelings about it. On most days I kept telling myself that it was good for the soul, but I cannot deny that there were times I thought it was nauseating, wishing for it to just stop or pause for a little while. And then it hit me – that is how life is, no? You just keep going no matter how tough it gets.

I learnt a couple of things here and there too. Like how it is not the end of the world when you lose your job. Or how certificates do not entirely determine your level of knowledge and intelligence. Or if you have a dream, the time to pursue it is now.

I had bad days that got me trying to count my blessings so I could perk up a little bit, but you know what? I learnt that there is no such thing as trying to do so because…

And if you should count the favours of Allah , you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. [16:18]

I have a thing for planning ahead. I plan a lot. So I thought it was normal for me to be furious when things got out of hand, except that it is not. Say those lines again, they rhyme! Hahah. So anyway, I grew tired of chasing my worldly wants. I may have achieved some on rare occasions, alhamdulillah, but have been given limited or denied access to the rest of them. Sometimes I had to take a difficult path to get there. This is where I learnt that…

Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not. [2:216]

To live by “Let go and let God” requires practice, and in all honesty, it is still a work in progress for me. Here is an upside of it that I would love to share – I may not get most of the things that I want, but I have been blessed abundantly with the things that I need, masyaAllah. :’)

There are many other lessons that I have learnt in 2014, but I would like to end this entry with just one more – Never stop learning.

I am a reader. I read at home, during lunch, and even on the go. Yay, smartphones! Apart from textbooks, lecture notes and readings, I read articles and comments covering the many tragedies and crisis that happened all year round too. While some managed to open my mind and make me think outside the box, there were others that made me wince due to misconception, generalisation and sweeping statements. I strongly believe that attaining knowledge is of great importance in order to deter such acts and tackle such issues. And besides…

Don’t you agree?

That is all that I have for 2014. Thank you and have a blessed 2015, everybody! ❤
